What is a Shamanic Session?Shamanism is an ancient form of spiritual practice. Some form of it has existed on our planet for at least 40,000 years. A shaman is a practitioner (female or male) who addresses the spiritual aspects of illness. They work in partnership with their helping spirits and power animals as a hollow bone, a channel that bridges the client with the healing power of the spirits. Common spiritual components of illness include:
A shamanic session is a healing ceremony of relationship that weaves together the client, the shamanic practitioner, and the helping spirits to support the client to become more authentic and whole. From a shamanic point-of-view, most illnesses are caused by soul loss. This occurs when we suffer a physical or emotional trauma and our ego disassociates from our whole soul essence to protect itself. Often soul loss occurs at a very young age and creates an opening for intrusions to lodge, unconscious patterns or thoughts that continue to repeat the original trauma. To shift these unhealthy patterns, the intrusions need to be removed and the ego needs to be reunited with the soul essence it left so that the client is re-membered back to wholeness. In the extraction ceremony, a shamanic practitioner goes into a non-ordinary state of consciousness, merges with their helping spirit, locates and removes spiritual intrusions, energetic thought forms that can lodge in the clients body after soul loss has occurred. Common forms of spiritual intrusions are negative thoughts and addictive patterns. In the soul retrieval ceremony, a shamanic practitioner goes into a non-ordinary state of consciousness to find and return the lost soul essences to the client. As part of the ceremony, the practitioner also finds and returns a power animal, a helping spirit to support connection to a healthy instinctive life. In the psycho-pomp ceremony, a shamanic practitioner goes into a non-ordinary state of consciousness to meet and help the spirits of the deceased who may be lost or suffering and inappropriately connected to the client.
